For my first master plan project in the MLA program, I was asked to choose a tree along the Muncie Tree Walk and create a space that would allow people to experience certain qualities of my chosen tree. I chose a mature Honey Locust tree outside of the University's library where there is a lot of pedestrian traffic.
My goal for the sire was to create points of retreat neat the tree and out of the way of traffic, and to address a lack of accessibility with the site's elevation changes. I designed permanent tables and seating areas accessible to people at all levels of mobility to use for work or relaxation, alone or with friends.
